Typical L.L. Bean quality ~ the Moonbeam clock is amazing ~ I love the way I can wake up to a soft, intermittent light....very gentle! What a neat concept. I'm planning on getting one for my sister for next year's Christmas gift. She is SO hard to buy for, and I know she'd love this as much as I do...we grew up in the '50's, and it has that wonderful Art Deco look! Good job, L.L. Bean! This one's a keeper!
The only reason I didn't give the full 5 stars is because of the wake up light. The original Moon Beam Clock from a few years ago had a brighter wake up light. This is really the best clock. It's loud, pretty, and comes in great colors.
ProsDurable, Great Value, Performing as Expected, best way to wake up
I love my Moonbeam. I ordered the pale green for myself this holiday -- my present to myself. The flashing light wakes me up in a gentle way. I wake up in the morning without realizing my alarm clock woke me up! I am in a much better frame of mind in the morning now.
It is surprising, in retrospect, just how irritating my old digital alarm clock buzzer was (or the digital sound of my cell phone alarm) or how complicated my digital alarm clock was to set in comparison to my sweet Moonbeam. The face is cheerful and easy to read. I keep the face lighted (you can turn it off) for the gentle glow at night. The pale green color is restful and perfect (although I will probably buy another color soon for the guest room).
This really is the alarm clock to beat. I recommend it just so you can experience how peaceful and easy it is to wake up to a flashing light in the morning, although there is much more to the Moonbeam (snooze button, options for light and alarm, a nice alarm when you do need it, and a battery backup).
What are the downsides? None, given the world we live in. But in my perfect world, the Moonbeam would be offered in pale pink; it would be made in the U.S.A.; and the light inside the Moonbeam would be more incandescent rather than flourescent (although I suppose that's why it's called Moonbeam, for the coolness of the light).
I can also tell my loved ones were jealous of my Moonbeam, so I already know what will make for very nice and useful presents in the future.
