This is the 3rd Moonbeam Clock we have owned. They are awesome I love the wakeup light function as the blinking light usually wakes me up but if it is a really lazy day there is the alarm- you can set it to just do either or both. The backlight (which you can switch off) is very gentle so you can look at the time if you wake up at night wihtout being blinded or dealing with a nightlight.
I have to say that I was very dissapointed in the clock. I received a moonbean clock about 5 years ago as a gift and loved it. When my clock broke, I said it would be the only alarm clock I would ever get again. The light is not as bright as the original clock and I hjave to say I have slept through the alarm quite a few times.

I bought this clock in the green color for our family room. Very sharp looking, I love it! Love how the face lights up. Keeps excellent time. Might try it as an alarm clock sometime and see how that works out. My only concern would be the ease of changing the alarm time, as my husband and I get up at different times and I don't want to set it wrong and he misses work. It's not like a modern electronic alarm clock, I'll try a few practice runs sometime...It was purchased mainly as a decorative item which definately serves the purpose.
I don't know why some users complained that the bell is loud/annoying. Sounds OK to me, very much prefer it over the electronic screaming of my usual clock. If the lights didn't wake you up, you probably need the loud bell, so why complain? Has a bright pulsing light that starts the waking process, everything works as it should.
For the money, it really is a nice buy for what you get. Before purchasing this item, I would never have bought a clock as a gift, but this one would make an excellent, unique gift and would fit all kinds of tastes.
