I was thrilled with the size and the dove grey color - it's exactly what is depicted on the website, and fits perfectly with my "modern vintage" decor. I was also worried about switching from a digital clock to this analog, but the dial face backlight option is a soft yellow/orange color and perfect in the middle of the night.
Functionally, the clock could be improved. The blinking light option is of no use to me and would never wake me up on its own. The bell alarm is a fabulous old, mechanical schoolhouse bell sound - but it's EXTREMELY loud! Excessively loud, even for an alarm clock - my roommate in an adjoining room is not pleased. Also, the knobs on the back used to set the time and the alarm time are a little "too vintage": the first thing I saw upon opening the clock was a warning label stating the knobs must be turned ONLY in the direction indicated (see photos), and turning them the other way may ruin the gears. Thus far I've followed this rule, but as a graduate student working long hours, I'm worried it's only a matter of time before I forget when setting the alarm before falling into bed.
Overall, a beautifully stylish clock that, if it were functionally/mechanically modernized, would get 5 stars from me!
I recently purchased a Moonbeam Clock, and couldn't be more satisfied. Love the color (vanilla), also think the lit face is soft, no glare..I normally don't have a light on in the bedroom, but as this is a pleasant light, do leave it on. The blinking light does wake me up if I am facing the clock, and the alarm is not shrill, but is loud enough to wake me if the light doesn't do it first. I am well pleased and would definitely recommend.
I've purchased 2 of these clocks over the years and love them! The light is awesome, but for those times when you might be sleeping during daylight hours, the backup sound alarm is useful. The style is wonderful.
Recently the alarm on the newer clock stopped working - (the clock continued to work fine). I called LLBean and they immediately arranged a quick exchange, no questions asked, no shipping charges - they're one of the best service companies in the world I think! I love knowing that they'll stand behind what they sell.
