This clock combines two great features, a classic retro look and a technology that allows you to be awaken by light. The retro look fits in with my bedroom decor and the face design is not too bright, but allows you to see the time if you turn on the dial face light feature. The awaken with light feature is fantastic. I had to adjust the position of the clock a couple of times so that it was in my line of sight. Once I did that, I only had it go to the bell alarm stage only once... late night! Great product.
Purchased this clock because I wanted to use the Light (Wakeup Function) only of this clock. Unfortuately, this did not wake me up and I did not like the "ring" tone on this clock. It's overall appearance is nice however.

The gentle light is enough to wake most, but as you found, it may not be right for everyone. The traditional bell is modeled after that in the original 1950s design of the Moonbeam Clock.
