As other reviewers have said, this didn't work correctly right from the start. I set the alarm and the light did flash, but no alarm. I tried it several times and one time the alarm sounded. I was debating exchanging it for another one, in case it was just a fluke, but looking at other reviews, that would seem to be a waste of time. Very surprising to find this poor quality on L.L. Bean.
The silent flashing light of this alarm clock is a soothing wake up call, when there's not a loved one at home to urge you awake gently. If you are so groggy that your brain does not register the light or your head is buried under the covers on a cold night, a mild and old-fashioned brrr-ring of an alarm eventually sounds. This is a fabulous alarm clock!
This clock looks great and works as advertised. I especially like waking up by the flashing light. The backlight on the face is mellow enough to read but does not light up the room. Even the buzzer is not overbearing, just loud enough to wake you. It's nice having the option to turn the backlight on and off. You also have the option to use the buzzer and/or the flashing light to wake up. I've been buying LL Bean products for more than 25 years and every one of them have been of the best quality. I expect this clock will be too.
