I've been wearing this style slipper from LL Bean as my house shoe for close to 30 years. I've lost track how many pairs I've gone through but I may be getting close to double digits now. They have made "improvements" through the years like the double sole and leather lining but I don't think they wear as long as they used to. I am on my second or third pair of the double-sole, leather lining and just ordered another pair as the previous is already developing a hole at a heel. They must be using cheaper or thinner leather on the soles these days because I'm wearing holes in them much faster than the old models. In the old models I've worn holes in the sides near the little toe before the sole would get a hole. The leather lining is nice but I could do without it if they'd go back to a sturdier or thicker sole leather. However, I'll keep ordering this shoe as long as they keep making it in whatever form. Regarding size they say to order up if you are a half size but I don't think that is really necessary unless you plan to wear thick socks like in winter time. I normally wear a 10 1/2 D dress shoe. The size 10 slipper fits fine for me and I could probably even wear thick socks with it. The size 11 slipper is definitely big for me. I've worn both sizes through the years. My two most recent previous pairs were 11 and my newest pair is size 10. I prefer the 10 but either size works for me. As for giving it 4 stars instead of 5 that is mainly because I don't like to give a perfect score to anything but the quick wear rate that I've experienced the past few years probably justifies the 4 if not a 3 rating.
I requested these moccasins as a gift expecting them to be durable as well as comfortable. In the photos and even on initial examination the soles appeared to be thick, rugged leather similar to saddle or boot leather that would provide many years of long usable life. However in less than one year of only indoor use on carpeted and wood floors the moccasins developed holes in the soles. The outer leather of the sole turned out to be thin with a plastic inner sole creating the false impression of thickness & stiffness. The disappointment in these moccasins has been significant, especially considering the fact that I have had inexpensive/cheap Minnetonka brand moccasins that lasted for years.
As to comfort, the moccasins are comfortable. And as noted by other reviewers they do tend to run a bit oversized...probably a half size larger than listed. So if you regularly wear a size 9.5 shoe then order a size moccasin order a size 9.0.
Bought these beautiful slippers for my husband's birthday a couple years ago. They, to this day, still look great on the surface, but after only 6 months of wearing them only in the house they had a hole worn through the first layer of the sole. Needless to say, many more holes have developed in the interim. As much as I love their look, I would not recommend them to anyone unless they have a home with carpeting throughout and no hardwood flooring.
