This is a beautiful gown (I ordered the blue and it's a lovely color). But it is NOT your traditional flannel. I was so disappointed when I took it out of the bag and it was a very smooth, flat, cool finish. Not fuzzy and warm. I returned it and ordered the Tartan flannel gown in red plaid instead.
I liked the design of this nightgown but was disappointed with the fabric. It wasn't flannel as I understand it, but a thinner, less soft material, so I returned it.
We purchased one of these for my grandmother (now 99 years old) two Christmases in a row many years ago (one red and one indigo). She ADORES these and wears them to bed every night. Unfortunately she fell recently and had to go to the emergency room where they cut her red one off. I was so sad to see they ruined it, but was thrilled when I saw L.L. Bean still has these available! Grandma already has a new red one in the mail right now - and just in time for Christmas! I highly recommend this nightgown to anyone.
I was leery to order this gown after reading many of the previous reviews. It is not the heavy flannel that LL Bean is known for. It also does run large (I ordered a size smaller than normal). While it is not a heavy flannel gown, it is a soft and comfortbale to wear gown that looks good. It hangs to the ankles and covers the wrists. While it might be too light in the coldest climates (or for those who houses get really cold at night), it is perfect for those who only need a bit warmth.
