Is it possible that the quality varies by color? I am surprised by all the 5 star reviews of this gown. When I look closely, it appears that most of these writers may have purchased the new blue version. I purchased the red one. The fabric is thin, more like plain cotton than flannel. And the gown is longer than my other LLBean petite nightgowns. The background color is tan, not white. In all fairness, the design is great. It's the fabric that's the problem.

I am so happy with this purchase! I love old fashioned stuff, so I immediately was drawn to this nightgown because it has that look to it. I was not disappointed when it arrived! The nightgown is very beautiful. The detail work with the pleats on the chest and back is really quite spectacular. The pattern on the fabric is very pretty too. I got the "indigo" one, which is a cream background with dark blue design. The background is not really white, it's more the color of raw canvas. But I love it like that! It adds to the old fashioned-ness. The fabric is not that stiff flannel, but I wouldn't say it's thin. It's still very warm and cozy.
About the size...I am tall (5'9'') and usually wear a size 6. I don't usually wear a large in clothes, but I decided to order the large in this nightgown because I didn't want it to be too short. I am very glad I ordered the large. There is plenty of length in the arms and skirt. It comes down to a little above my ankles. Of course it looks loose, but you wouldn't want a tight nightgown, right? I did wash it and put it in the dryer and it shrunk a tad bit. It got a little bit shorter in the skirt, but the arms are still nice and long. But it didn't shrink that much, maybe just an inch higher on my leg. I would say that if you can't decide between two sizes, go with the larger one.
I have been wearing the nightgown every night and I just love it! Another nice detail is the cuff on the sleeves. It's not elastic, it's a button. This is very comfortable and also adds to the charm of the style. I am 28 years old, but I don't feel like this is something for an "older" woman. I think it's very romantic and cozy, and appropriate for all ages! I paid full price and think it was worth every penny. I am actually thinking of buying another in a different color! You can tell by the way it's made that the nightgown is durable and going to last a long time.
If you like nightgowns and are looking for a good winter one, definitely get this one!
