We have a family tradition of Christmas Eve pajamas and for years I have tried to get my husband to order mine from LL Bean. He tried once or twice too late (sold out) but this year he finally did it! While he griped big time about the price (I told him I'm worth it!) I am in love!! The gown fits perfectly!! I am short (5'3") and heavy. He ordered the 2X and I am so pleased. The length is perfect as are the sleeves. The gown is loose fitting (we large gals like that!) but tailored enough around the shoulders that I don't feel like I'm swimming in it. The detailing on the front with the pin-tuck is gorgeous and I love the red ( my favorite color) and the beautiful design in the fabric. I have to mention again how perfect the length is!! This is something that is normally unheard of for me when buying clothes!
I will be working on him for the next 12 months so that next year's Christmas jammies for me are again from LL Bean...perhaps another Christmassy fabric design of this same gown! Merry Christmas!!
After reading ALL of the reviews, I took a chance and ordered the Barberry and Clear Blue. I was a little disappointed because these did not have the weight or softness of my flannel nightgowns of many years past. However, I decided to keep them because they were so pretty in an old fashioned way, beautiful colors, very loose fitting, made well and 100% cotton. After washing and adding fabric softener, they have gotten softer and feel more like flannel. They keep me warm at night and best of all they do not ride up. I like them so much that I ordered two more nightgowns. At 5'3' tall I usually order petite, but instead ordered regular size. XL Regular came to my ankle and the sleeve, a little past my wrist. Because the gown is very loose fitting you may want to go down a size, but I like my gowns loose so they don't ride up.
This is a very nice nightie. I understand the reviewers who criticized it for not being "flannel". This material is not nearly as thick as what I call flannelette (I always thought flannel was wool and flannelette cotton). This material is nice and soft and does become fluffier once it is washed, but not as thick as what I am used to. I also noticed that the pin tucks are not even on each side of the placket, and they should be. I think the quality should be higher for the price. But it IS definitely a soft, comfy nightie, nice and long and flowing. I am tall (5' 10") and it comes to my ankles. With thicker material and better quality control, it would be worth the full price, but not as it is.
This fabric does not qualify as my idea of flannel. It was thin, not warm and not brushed and actually rough to the touch. The gown fit well and was well made, but the fabric ruined the garment.
