this is the only gown I could find for my 94 yo mother with a higher neckline. it is flannel, but not SOFT. I washed it thinking that might help, but it didn't. i would like a softer fabric….and an even higher neck if possible…maybe next year's line will have something more to our liking...
I've purchased a few of these over the years, and just absolutely love these beautiful vintage-look nightgowns. They are cotton flannel, as opposed to wool flannel, so they are softer and more comfortable close to your skin, but not as warm as wool flannel would be. I'm 5'7" and 178#, and while I have one that is in extra-large, it was so big on me that I was lost in it. Although I enjoyed curling up in all the extra fabric in the extra-large size, particularly on weekends to read a book, the large size is quite large enough for me, and I have 4 in the large size. I like how they keep my shoulders and arms warm in the winter, I get cold easily, and these make winters more pleasant. I have several different colors through the years, but my favorite is the cranberry -- just festive and so pretty! I do feel as if I've just stepped out of a Jane Austen novel, when I wear these. I don't think you can go wrong with this nightgown. Another winner, LLBean! Thank you for helping to keep us warm in the winters.
The vintage nightgown is my favorite piece of clothing in the fall and winter. I wear these even in the day time because it is the perfect weight for me...yes, they are indeed flannel, but in a tight twill weave that is brushed and feels smooth on the skin.
I have been wearing my 3 vintage nightgowns (all in the red and ivory color which is no longer available...sigh) for the last 5 winters and just ordered 3 more since some of them are starting to get thin from constant laundering. The Clearwater Blue is quite lovely.
When you first receive them, they appear so flat that you wonder, but launder them and they will fluff up, especially after drying them on low for a short time. Don't over dry flannel...EVER!
These nightgowns promise a good night's sleep, because they do not overheat you and offer ample room for movement and do not ride up and give you chills on your legs. Beautiful and feminine as well. I just LOVE these!
I have flannel sheets and a down comforter in Oregon. I ordered this nightgown and was surprised that the fabric was absolutely FLAT, not flannel at all. A good design but I could not be warm in it. I returned it. I am glad for these reviews, they give different experiences and help me make up my mind. Thanks for the good return policy.
