I read through a number of the comments made about these nightgowns before purchasing two of them just recently. A few people had mentioned that the flannel fabric wasn't as good as it had been in previous days. Perhaps not, but as a longtime seamstress and admirer of high quality materials and workmanship, I must say I couldn't be happier with these gowns. They are very well made, wash beautifully and are comfortable to wear both in and out of bed. I plan to buy more, including the blue one for myself, and others for a couple of sister-friends I'm sure will love them too.
Soft, light flannel, stripes line up nicely front/back at shoulders. Barberry is as deep (almost red) as looks in picture; very nice. I did not feel it was large for size at size 8 (I run 8-10). With cold water wash and hot dryer it shrunk 1.5 inches in length so that it falls mid-calf, not ankle (I'm 5'6", 135 lb). The shrinkage also slightly raises where the end of the front pleats are, which might not be flattering for a larger bust. The sleeves did not shrink that much but I have long arms and would actually prefer the sleeves slightly longer. The neck when buttoned is slightly snug even for my thin neck but top button is also sewn on a little awry so will move it over. Decent room under arms so have elected not to go up a size. Would have been better quality had they pre-shrunk the fabric.
Beautifully made with great attention to detail. The fit is great, which is not something I can often say about a 2X.
SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT
1) How about one or two in-seam pockets?
2) Oh, how I wish this came in more colors with less of the grandmother element... (that blue especially). I would particularly like to see (in order):
A) Charcoal gray B) Black with white embroidery C) Dark lavender D) Dark red E) Dark green F) Dark slate blue
If this ever happens, wouldn't it be grand if LLBean contacted me?
Currently own two Vintage Flannel Nightgowns and am very happy with them--nice and warm. Just received my third vintage flannel nightgown and feel that the fabric does not match the previous two gowns in quality and, in all likelihood, warmth.
