These are fine socks for winter--very warm and soft. They are not at all itchy. They need shoes or boots that are a bit roomy, since they are a substantial thickness.
I think wool works better than any synthetic for keeping my feet toasty.

These wool ragg socks are perfect in cold weather! I gave a pair to my 85-year-old mom to keep her toes warm, and I love wearing mine with my snow boots -- squooshy, warm, and well-made! They have kept their shape, fit snugly, worth every cent.
Socks were delivered in a timely fashion (love the free shipping with the LL Bean card). They are soft and will be great for outdoor winter activities. Haven't laundered them yet so I cannot comment on that aspect.

I got a three pack of these socks and the dark green pair shrunk in the dryer. It was so bad I had to throw them away. They were less than half their length. The other two pair are fine and I love them. The heels did not wear out for me.
