and you will find that you have some of the greatest sox you've ever owned. These sox are wool blend. The operational term here is WOOL. Wool shrinks in the dryer. So either wash them in warm/cold water and let them dry in the open air; or (as I do) buy them a size up (L to XL - 10' - 12" etc.) and wash them all you want. Once they've shrunk a bit, they'll stop and pretty much stay the size you wanted all along.
Another idea. These sox are HEAVY wool...they're not intended to be dress sox. So, yes they do have a heavy seam. Oh well, if you wear them and wash them a for a little while, you'll quickly find that they get so soft that you don't notice the seam.
Duh...Like I said, use a little common sense people. I have about 10 pair of these sox and in the Chicago winters. My son knows to buy me at least 2 more pair each year at Xmas (he wears them too). I won't leave the house without them. I even bought my Uggs fleece lined house slippers one size larger so that they would fit over my sox. Uh huh...as you can see, the sox are my priority here, not the $100 slippers.
They are without the hardest wearing, warmest, most comfortable and best value sox I've ever encountered... because I used a little common sense when I first bought them.
These socks are the most comfortable and warmest I've ever had. I also gave some to my Mom, who always has cold feet. She even wears them in the summer and loves her LLBean socks!

if you are old school and inclined towards traditional woolen socks for your hiking and have grown tired of how thin so many brands and styles of wool socks are these days, then try these. i have owned thicker socks than these in the distant past, but these are a nice compromise in terms of thickness- so they cushion and wick moisture well under most conditions and seasons, but would work in winter as well with a quality cold weather boot.
