I have had two pair of ragg wool-blend socks for almost 9 years and I still wear them in the winter. They have no holes, but they are getting thin around the heels. There is some pilling on the heels also, but still serviceable. They wash well, although I still have to remove large lint balls fom inside the socks after washing (even after 9 years). The elastic has started to wear out and the socks don't stay up. My indigo pair is still dark blue, minimal fading.
They keep my feet warm in the winter although they are sometimes slightly itchy. They are not performance socks, but knock around the house socks. I've worn them with boots, but they don't stay up my leg and slouch.
They are kind of pricey since for a few dollars more you can get wool cresta socks, which are my new favourites to keep my feet warm, when I'm not in my Bean packable fleece slippers.
Overall a solid sock, I hope my cresta socks last as long and as well as my ragg wool socks. I really like my crestas socks.
Oh, not bad looking, cool with hiking shoes in summer, and tolerant of less than careful laundering, even surviving a couple of HOT cycles in the dryer.
I bought 9 pairs in gray, and green, and they are pretty much the only socks I wear anymore.
LL Bean has offered these socks for years, during this period the quality has varied from extremely good to acceptable. The most recent batch(7-09) is very soft, but not as durable as some of the past versions (heels wear out rapidly). Nevertheless, they are a good buy for the price, and I would certainly buy them again.
Good quality and value. Very good color selection. Can't find decent socks in our local stores.......so once again LLB is our go-to store. And free shipping with your Visa card really makes the difference.
