These socks used to be much better quality. Now they are absolute junk. Both socks had holes in the heel and toe after mere hours of wear. Used to buy these all the time in the 90's, bought a pair a few years ago and noticed the quality had diminished and started buying Wigwam and Smartwool. Received the most recent pair of LL Bean Ragg wool socks as a gift. Buying these is penny-wise and pound foolish. Never again.
These socks are so unbelievably thick. I had difficulty getting my shoes/boots on due to the thickness of the sock. When I did my shoes/boots on, my feet felt terribly crammed into the footwear. I wish I would have purchased the SmartWool socks.
I'm so glad I got these socks! I have a few pair of longer socks that I normally wear with my Bean Boots, but I finally decided to get some L.L. Bean socks! They are so warm and thick, but what I love most about them is that they are AMAZING in the rain! I've worn them all week in the constant rain and they don't even get damp.
I was worried that they would be too warm for the Alabama weather, and they probably will be as it slowly gets warmer, but they have been perfect so far!
Important to know about the sizing: I'm a female and wear a size 8.5 in regular shoes, an 8 in Bean Boots and a LARGE in these socks! Technically, I should wear a medium, which the website states is for Women's Sizes 6-10, but after reading the reviews online, I figured I would try the Large. AND I'M SO GLAD I DID. I love LL Bean, I do, but their sizes always give me a headache. "order a size down in boots, but order a size up in socks, etc."
I ordered the "navy multi" socks - actually one pair in navy with gray & cranberry, the other in cranberry with gray and navy. They're nice socks, seem warm and comfy - but they're going back. There are lots of loose yarns in the socks, at every time there's a color change. Some of the yarns are loose on the inside, some stick out noticeably on the outside. They do not seem to be knotted, only loosely woven through the sock itself. I'm sure they will continue to unravel, so back they will go, and I'll order a solid color.
About the size - others mentioned that the 10" socks were much shorter than that. I chose these 12" socks only because the 10" ones weren't available in this color combo, and was afraid they would be too long. They are called 12" socks - I tried them on and measure, they rise barely 10-1/2" from the floor and from my heel, and I would assume that is the way they should be measured.
