Note: I bought these together with a pair of Wool Merino socks. My comments on those socks follow, and apply to these socks as well:
Like many other reviewers of wool socks, I was very disappointed in wool socks which I ordered 2 years ago. The quality was excellent and the warmth was excellent, but they shrunk to the point where I was unable to even stretch them onto my feet this year. Having previously had excellent experience with Bean wool socks, I decided to give it a try again and to return these new ones (unlike the other ones I had bought) if they shrank.
But I'm pleased to report no problems with this year's batch. Not only are they attractive and warm, but they did not shrink.

I purchased these socks and do agree with the other reviewers' comments that they are different than the previous models. This came as no surprise as the description rather clearly suggests that these are different. That being said, these socks are very comfortable and warm and they seem to be quite durable so far. They have a softer feel than the older ones but are of similar high quality. Although I do like these socks, I still prefer the older model and I hope that LL Bean will see fit to bring them back at some point. Of note, I wear a size 10 wide shoe and the extra large size fits quite well.
