I have worn LLBean ragg wool socks for years, but have not always found the extra-large socks (size 12 - 15) that I now require in their stores, so I was delighted to find them on line for a reasonable price, and ordered six pairs. A short-lived delight: when they arrived the socks were smaller than a usual large size. They were marked as "stretch", even though that word was not used in the on-line description in quick view, and in any case, could not come close to stretching to fit my size 14 feet comfortably. I returned the entire order today. I didn't realize that I'd be invited to review this purchase, or I'm have illustrated this problem photographically. Sizing socks should be easy compared to other garment sizing. How could Bean have gone so wrong?
I loved the socks' quality and looks. The size was fine but when I tried them on with shoes, I could feel the ridges of the knitted wool on the bottom of my foot. Maybe the knitting needs to be tighter and smaller? Had to return them and was disappointed. I do have sensitive feet, though, so maybe this won't be an issue for someone else.
These socks come in sizes, and as a 9, the one-size-fits-all is really a 9-12 so the heel ends up at my ankle. These fit great, are super comfortable, the wool is soft and not scratchy or itchy at all. They're nice and warm but not hot. And they wash / dry like a champ. I've got some new boots and these socks make them even better.
