A great pair of wool socks. Not itchy. Very thick. I ordered these in "gray" which is actually more of an oatmeal color, but I love it. Goes great with my bean boots!
I thought I was getting a large (which, in fact was what they were labeled), but they only came above my ankles about 3 inches. So much for wearing them in the wintertime. Then I washed them and they shrank so much that I gave them to my wife. I've bought this same 2 pairs of socks before and was very satisfied, but these were nothing like the previous version. This is the first time I have been disappointed with an L.L. Bean product.
Thinking ahead, I purchased size Extra Large for my husband. The blend is better in the dark color than in previously purchased Bean ragg socks (which shrunk terribly when laundered). Do not put this item in the dryer after washing. Overall, the socks seem to be holding up well and they stay soft. A wool ragg "blend" is difficult to find elsewhere.
My husband has been looking for socks to replace his well wore rag socks purchased years ago. He reports that the quality of these is 'poor'. The toe seam is thicker than usual and if not careful when putting the socks on, there is a bump on his toes and it causes the socks to very uncomfortable. The socks are tight on his foot so we would say these run small as well.
