I just got the large tote I ordered. I am happy with the quality but surprised to see how large the bag is. I probably will order a medium if I know the size is so generous especially as a gift. Luckily I did not order an extra large....
I ordered four of the large size with long handles for each couple in my family and they are perfect. I couldn't quite tell from the pictures if the large would be big enough as a beach bag or able to hold a large amount, but it can. The large size with the long handle is a perfect size and easy to carry. Thank you also for getting all the monogramming right!

I too have used these bags for decades. In the good old days it had many happy uses: a food bag for long car trips, for essential items to have at the Little League field, etc. Now it has a new use: for collecting soiled clothes in this aging woman's quarters and transporting them safely to and from our family's basement laundry room--thus providing me with a little more independence. I'm here on the L.L. Bean site this morning contemplating buying one for other family members.
My daughter bought me the custom tote, medium, long handles, zipper top, outside pocket, and beautiful color combination. I love this bag!! I've used it every work day for more than a year and it shows no signs of wear. It holds all my essentials -- full-size thermos, water bottle, book, files, eyeglasses in case, lunch, phone and more! It is the perfect size. I wish it had more pockets for smaller items, but I wouldn't part with this bag.
