I ordered a custom medium long handled bag in all black, but I did not expect the monogram to be in black thread which, needless to say, doesn't show at all, so I returned it. I've had other black items monogrammed and the thread was platinum which works better. I also ordered an extra large natural with green trim, but the advertised 10" handle drop is only 9". I'm only 5'3 so I can still get it over my shoulder, but that extra inch would've made a difference in comfort - perhaps I was sent a large by mistake? I may return it, pending delivery of another extra large with long handles to see if that one comes out as advertised, I'll choose between the two. I've just ordered the long handled large also to see if that works for my intended use. I'm using these bags for laundry (the large) and for comforter/sheet storage (extra large), but as a handbag it could use an option for internal pockets and a key clip, at least in the medium size. The medium size (mine came an inch smaller in advertised depth) fits my LLBean lunchbox, a coffee thermos, some work files and reading material, but not my sneakers/gym clothes(again, that extra inch makes a difference!) And I'd still need to carry a separate purse 'cuz of the lack of pockets. It'd be great if it was slightly bigger, I may try the large though I have a feeling that may be too large to commute with on public transportation. The quality is great though, and the 14' drop on the medium was perfect.
I purchased a large boat & tote bag back in college (25 years ago) and still LOVE it! I primarily used it for lugging clothes back and forth to school and over the years it has become a grocery carrier. Because it still holds it's shape I still use it as a weekend get-away clothes bag as well. It has held up remarkably well with very little wear showing!
So I thought I'd get this bag as a commuter bag to hold my purse and gym clothes but when I received it yesterday it was way too big. I already have the nylon adventure tote with the 6 pockets outside but the colors were too bright for everyday use. The canvas material is heavy and will definitely withstand my commute but the bag was huge. Laying flat the bag measures 15" across the base but measures 24" across the top. Carrying it next to my 5'3" frame looked funny and I felt like I'd hit everyone in my path. Also I wish LL Bean would update the bag with a front pocket and/or an inside packet for easier accessibility.
