I purchased this bag on the measurements provided and the photos in the ad. The bag opening is actually 1 1/2 times larger than the bag making it enormous. I sent it back. The base is marked 19" and the mouth is 30". Made well, wish it came in other than just white.
Much wider than the dimensions suggest. I ordered the large. When empty and stretched out it is almost 23 inches wide. Very sturdy fabric. It will hold more than I could carry.
This is my first boat tote. I love it and this may be the beginning of an addiction! I ordered the SMALL b/c I wanted to check out the quality at the lowest price and, I confess, I wanted a small tote bag to haul medication, toys, brush, and a can or two of food for my cat (we travel between two houses each week), personalized with her name. Everything fits easily. The DARK GREEN accent color is nice and the overall quality is excellent - rustic, but very durable. This bag is stiff so it stands up by itself, which I like. The small size is perfect for packing a good-sized lunch, using it as a purse or toiletry/cosmetic bag, using as a small storage container, or hauling smaller odds and ends.
The downer for me is the monogram. I requested my cat's name and whoever added the monogram didn't bother to measure, so the name is not centered between the two handles. That bothers me. The stitching of the monogram is good quality and the color of the thread is a perfect match with the handles, but the placement is off. I will probably return this to LL Bean, but what a hassle for me - I shop online b/c I don't have time to go to stores....or the post office, which is where I'll need to go to return this. It is also frustrating b/c I wanted to use this bag when we go out of town this weekend. I know other customers have complained about the quality of the monogramming and I hope LL Bean takes note. FYI - I knocked off one star b/c of it - if the monogram hadn't been so carelessly done, this would be 5 stars and I would feel better about the purchase.
Just got my monogrammed red tote with long straps in the mail! Absolutely love it! I got a medium. I'm a nurse who will use it as a work bag. I've been through 3 bags this year that have buckled under the weight of my stuff that I lug to and from work. This bag is hand crafted however and is made to withstand anything! Strong design!
