We have 2 of the small version and 2 of the large and they've seen us through 2 girls who are now in college (although I don't think there's an academic connection there). We just ordered two of the extra large and they are LARGE. Perfect for carrying bulky items on car trips or to the beach. They are strong, heavy canvas that stand up for easy loading and unloading.
I love the canvas open top tote bag. It has so many uses. I bought this one to carry laundry in. It is so much easier using the large loop handles rather than an awkard laundry basket.
