There's a ton of reviews but I thought I would add what sizes work well for different types of things in case anyone is wondering what size suits their needs. I have totes with "monogrammed" labels for everything including: Skating (figure skating, M but should have bought L - my skates stick out a tiny bit), Barn (riding stuff, XL holds half chaps, boots, extra layers and helmet in a soft helmet bag fully contained), Library (books, of course, but carries about a dozen childrens books easily M), Church (quiet bag for kids, S), Car (the random stuff that lives in my car, XL) and then an L general one for family outings carrying those odds and ends that kids need, including baby carriers which fit nicely. Hope that helps! I love these things and have had them for years but appreciate them even more now that I'm a parent. In case anyone is wondering the size small is great for kids, my toddler can carry books and a few small toys in there which makes for a perfect "busy bag". I like how sturdy the canvas is so they stand upright functioning as a basket as well. So much easier to ask a small child to put their books in the library bag when they don't have to handle the bag and the books just to get the bag open. I used to have one for my laptop in college (back when laptops were the size of desktops today) and the bag is so sturdy, I rarely used a case on my computer. Thanks LL Bean!
I bought the large long & it is excellent! Excellent quality, excellent zipper, excellent quality! I'm the type of person that you'll hear say, "you can never have a bag that is big enough", well, this bag carries everything I need for work! Not too large to ride on the train with, I just put it on the train floor. I stick my lunch, large knitting projects, work portfolios, water cup, coffee cup, and folders AND there is still plenty of space! Handles are very comfortable and you can just tell that this bag can sustain lots of weight.
Is what I am with these totes! I have been using them since college, ages ago and I LOVE them. Multiple uses: carrying books - check, overnight/week-end bag - check, I've even used it to cart files back and forth to work when necessary. At last count I owned one of each size, including the littlest one that can hold lunch items. Today's purchase is just a spur of the moment addition to add a little color to the mix!.
