I received this tote in red as a gift from my grandmother in 1986. I used it to carry things to and from high school. Then, I used it when I went to college. Now I am in my 40's and still using the same tote to bring groceries in from the car. I have even hauled a tv in my tote. It is the strongest, most durable thing I have ever owned. I LOVE it! It's also my favorite gift to give someone. Everyone loves it!
I've bought these for myself and several for gifts over the years. Really durable. I saw one review regarding how dirty theirs were for leaving logs in it. I've always have washed these in the washing machine (I have a front loader) with cold to warm water, then set out to dry. Never has been a problem. Not even a problem with the colors bleeding. My front loader washing machine is big enough to was the giant oversized tote I have.
Yes, I gave this 5 stars and we have probably 6 or 7 LL Bean totes of various sizes. I don't think that after as many reviews as this bag has that I could add any more positive aspects too it. It's all the reviews say. My only critique is how to clean it....esp the LX bag. One of ours was left outside with logs for the fireplace in it. Well after a few days of rain, you can imagine how it looked. Instructions say spot clean. Yeah, that's not going to work. Tried the laundry, just didn't come out as good. So lesson learned. I'm careful to treat the bag with just a little more respect. :)
My bookbag just wasn't going to cut it. So I read multiple reviews, and based on another nursing student's comment, I opted for the medium bag. Well, upon arrival I quickly realized that the medium bag was too small for my needs. So I was able to return is (even after monogramming!) I ordered the large with long handles and I absolutely love it. Yes there is considerable difference in size between the medium and large (almost like they skipped a size in between) but it's perfect.
A typical day includes 3 binders, 2 workbooks, 1 textbook, student planner, iPad, mini laptop, pencil case, wallet and a small makeup bag. Even after all that, I still have space on top of everything to place a raincoat or sweatshirt.
I look around the class at girls who have a large Vera Bradley tote and I'm just amazed at how much the straps are being stretched. I'm waiting for the day when one breaks. I absolutely love this bag. It is durable enough for the load I have to carry and I have faith in the bag that it will not break on me (for for a third of the price of a VB bag!)
