Cut too full and weirdly tailored......
PostedSeptember 27, 2016
If the shirt I received is actually slim fit, I shudder to think of the circus tent that a traditional-fitted version must be. My Bean casual tartan buttondown is cut more flatteringly. The wrist cuffs were clearly for an enormously fat-wristed person and looked preposterous. The collar looked and felt excessively stiff and had an unnatural roll, holding a tie only awkwardly. Not at all like the gorgeous old Bean oxfords I inherited from my father and which I still wear weekly. They came in only one fit, were made of a beefy oxford cloth, look great on a normally proportioned guy, and have a terrific, Brooks-like collar roll.
Bring them back, Bean!

Shirts

I see a lot of reviews saying these shirts are not as good as the old version of the same. I never had those, but I love this shirt. I have a few in different colors. Good fit, colors stand up, thick material so you wont look like trash with the undershirt being seen.
They are thick so expect that to maybe not be a summer shirt, depending on where you are.

Tattersall oxford shirt - used to be better
PostedSeptember 22, 2016
I have been wearing LLBean tattersall shirts continually since my college days in the 1970s. It has been one of my favorite shirts. I have owned dozens over the years. The merits of the shirt were durability, heavy fabric that seems to get better with each washing, available in true sizes (16.5 x34 as opposed to Large), and the classic tattersall pattern that works well with office-casual in any season.
I agree with the other reviewers that remarked about the decline in the fabric quality. It is thinner, courser and less durable than it was 10 or more years ago, Maybe LLBean could switch back to their old source for the material.
I am satisfied with the traditional fit. I am concerned about the reviewers who belly ache about the torso fit. I am concerned that LLBean will listen to theses few complainers and abandon true sizing of neck and sleeves in favor of torso options. There is hardly anything available in my size 16.5 x34 at LLBean. Please do not make this shirt small/medium/large like most of the rest of Bean's shirt offerings. I would never buy it again.
I think the recent color selections have been boring (eg. blue on blue, green on green). I miss the contrasting color arrangements that work so well with a tattersall pattern. One of my all time favorites was Black with a mustard/gold color. If you rotated the colors every six months or so I would probably expand my collection for each new one.
