I have bought these shirts almost exclusively for almost 20 years and the newer 100% cotton simply do not wear as well as the older polyester blend. I have shirts less than a year old that are already fraying at the cuffs. Yet I also have a few "blend" shirts that I bought over fifteen years ago that that I still can wear around the house. The material is thinner and there is some "pilling" around the collar, but otherwise they are fine--no frays. I suppose I should have returned the newer shirts for a replacement, but until I read the online reviews I thought maybe my experience was unique!
My husband loves these shirts. He likes the weight of the fabric, the fit, and the wrinkle-resistance. However, every shirt that he has purchased develops tears, usually above the cuff, after about a year. We send it back then and get another since he likes the shirt so much.
Well-fitting shirts with substantial fabric and fairly good wrinkle resistance that I wear to work nearly every day. My only regret: they're notably inferior to the wonderfully soft, durable 60-40 cotton blend shirts formerly sold by Bean and used by me for 15 years. Those shirts had good wrinkle resistance without the chemical processing of the new ones and their soft, strong fabric took many years to start fraying. I'm still wearing one that's a decade old. It's sad they've been discontinued. The new shirt is still good, but coarser in feel and mine have begun to fray at the collar after 18-24 months of use.
