I bought this barn coat in a size X-Small in an olive green color. Unfortunately, the X-Small was very boxy and felt like a Small or Medium. Since this is a lighter coat, I wasn't planning on layering it and I would have wanted a closer fit, probably with darts.
The coat is a lot warmer than I thought it would be, probably because of the flannel lining. However, it only had flannel on the inside of the torso, and I don't like it when the wind cuts through the sleeves.
I like the weight of this coat and wear it if it's just a little chilly outside and not windy--good for a Southern spring or fall day. The updated version looks like it has been improved, so I would go with that one rather than this one.
This is a very useful and attractive lightweight coat. In my opinion, it runs true to size. I am a size 4 petite and the regular women's size XS fits me well with plenty of room in the shoulders and sleeves. There is room to layer a mid weight sweater. The red color is a nice muted red that looks good with a variety of colors. The coat is a comfortable weight for a car coat. I use it for running errands and light outdoor chores on days when it is a little chilly for just a sweater. For me, this flannel lined jacket with a sweater under it keeps me warm when temps are in the 50's. (If it is colder than that I have the insulated version of this barn coat that is incredibly warm.) This is quickly becoming one of my favorite coats.
I have purchased many of these coats! I have a print one from several years ago and I get more compliments on it. I have been wearing it fall, winter and spring. I need another one and I am purchasing the one shown. New ones are cut too narrow for me. Sure hope Bean's brings them back as I have grand kiddos that would like them now. I have given several as gifts and they all like them lots!
