I bought this comforter over a year ago and if I had to purchase one again, this would still be the comforter. It is lightweight but keeps you warm. My husband who runs warm can even tolerate sleeping under it. It's fluffy without being suffocating but still feels snuggly. Yes, it still makes a bit of noise but not enough to bother my husband or I. The quality of the comforter is excellent. the little fabric straps for securing it to the cover are holding on like champions, (of course I would expect nothing less from L.L.Bean).
This box stitch comforter in the warm version is warmer than a blanket, but hardly weighs anything at all when you're sleeping under it.
Yes, it can make a little noise. I have an older, fluffier down comforter (from a different manufacturer) that still makes a little noise even though its been washed and dried several times. It shouldnt be a problem unless you sleep with someone who never stops moving around.
I would like to let you know that this is not one of the warmer down comforters. If you're finally buying a down comforter because you're too cold to sleep, or because your heat is erratic, this one probably won't be warm enough for you in winter. Look at the different models and choose one with a little more down filling, maybe one with baffles. It will be puffier and warmer, but it will still feel very light when you're sleeping under it.
We bought this comforter about a week ago and I absolutely love it so far! I had been concerned about the crinkle noise that many other reviewers commented on, but I haven't noticed that with ours. I had been sleeping with a sheet, a fuzzy blanket, and a comforter prior to purchasing this down comforter....but, I no longer need the fuzzy blanket to stay warm at night. I love how the down envelopes your body and creates little pockets of warmth....definitely nice to snuggle under on a chilly night!
Your catalog copy claims that this down comforter is 100% downproof. It is not; bits of down appear on the flannel cover (yours) and are impossible to remove either with a lint roller or in the wash.
