I find it extremely bizarre that LLBean would sell comforter covers with ties on the inside, but their premium down comforters have no strap on which to tie a cover. Luckily, I'm handy with a needle and thread and could fashion my own ties, but it was not convenient at all and not the quality I've come to expect from LLBean. Sadly disappointed....
We bought two of these for our young sons. They actually find them a bit too warm (we live in Eastern Canada) and kick them off, but I LOVE them. They are so soft and fluffy - much better (MUCH) quality than others we have purchased. We only use these in the coldest months and switch to lighter duvets for the warmer ones. We had the older ones that were yellow/butter colored. I was annoyed at first because the color showed through our white duvet covers that I specifically bought for their rooms. Apparently the color is now cream - but something to consider if you have white covers. I notice the odd feather when I change the cover, but certainly not as bad as some comments. Love them. Plan to order one for my husband and I when we need a new one.
I really want to love this comforter. It is of excellent quality in construction and the fabric feels wonderful, but it is not down proof. I second the comments from the below reviewer. I have hardwood floors and I have to dust, vacuum, and Swiffer every time I change the duvet cover. I am not exaggerating when I say we lay down and move the comforter and it looks like it is snowing in the bedroom if it isn't covered on laundry days. I love shopping L.L. Bean and their products. I am returning mine and have another one on the way. This is the first product I've had to return and I'm not typically picky. I just don't think anyone could tolerate this amount of shed. I've also never had this issue with a down comforter before.
I bought a warm box-stitch goose down comforter a few months ago. The fabric cover is light ivory color. This is a bad product. A lot of feathers come out from the box-stitch seams after 2 months of careful use. The fabric is not down proof. I use it with a duvet. Every time I take the cover off for washing, I can see a lot of feathers left inside of my duvet. I have to wash my duvet twice for both sides to get the feathers out. It's so much trouble. I have used many down comforters and this is the worst one. There is another customer review in July 7, 2010 complaining about the flying feathers. I would not have bought mine if I read her review.
