I had a two-year relationship with this bag, and I can't believe I held onto it that long. Never again...
First bag I exchanged for a newer one within 3 months because the stitching was coming undone throughout. The second bag, I ended up exchanging for a (much nicer) LLBean Signature Heritage tote because, again, the stitching was falling apart and I was growing wary of wrestling with the monstrosity.
Pros: - HUGE! I mean like... you-can-fit-a-child-in-it huge. - Plenty of compartments and dividers (if you like that sort of thing). - Classic design.
Cons: Ha. Where shall I begin? ... - Bad leather, shows every scratch and rain drop. - Poor design of overall construction, it becomes very floppy and really slouches at the corners (because there is no structure at all, which can be a huge flaw of poorly-designed oversize bags). I mean, like seriously, it completely loses all structure and shape after 1 week of use. Yuck. - I detested the interior fabric, it was SO sad looking. - The center dividing compartment killed me every time I had to dive into my bag. Such a nuisance and very floppy. - I really hated everything about the interoir. - No metal feet on bottom - Stitching was poor throughout, especially in the interior.
So, if your looking for a giant leather deflated-pillow sort of bag... Hooray! This ones for you!
If not... I highly suggest moving on from this page. You will only find sadness here.
Love this leather tote in Cordovan! Received it as a Xmas present in 2012. Very handy as an overnight bag and iPad carrier. Wish it didn't have the middle zippered compartment. I feel that zippered compartment actually takes away from the versatility of the tote as an overnighter. Also, wish LL Bean would start to carry the matching mini-tote in Cordovan. I'd buy it in an instant!
The Town & Field Tote, Leather Mini, is the perfect size for not only a tote, but a purse. I can pack my wallet & iPad and still have room for my phone & other accessories. I am pleased with the quality and durability of this bag and will probably by another color in the near future.
I purchased the regular sized tote in black to carry for work. For four months, it worked great and looked fabulous. Then one of the metal pieces connecting the strap to the beg broke. I loved the bag while it lasted. I just expected it to last longer. Fortunately LL Bean has a fabulous return policy. Back to carrying a canvas tote bag.
