The exterior of the jacket is waterproof. However, if your other clothes are soaked, like your pants, water will wick up into the interior of the jacket and soak anything in the jacket pockets.
Had my son wear it today but knew it wouldn't fit the bill... we were looking for a winter jacket and it's just too thin. However, we buy the Bean rain jackets and I won't get them again - I'll get this one instead! Adds just that little bit of inside lining to keep them warm and dry but not too warm! Though I'm returning (typical, kids grow like weeds so don't want to get stuck with a wrong sized jacket!) However, I agree that it is definately true to size, color and description. Can't wait to buy it again (ha ha ha)!!!

This is a fantastic kids' jacket, worth every penny! The fit is true to size, looks great and is the perfect jacket for spring/summer/fall. I bought this jacket early this spring and each time my toddler got it really dirty, I cringed...however I was pleasantly surprised, time after time, how well the jacket washed up in the regular cycle. I couldn't ask for more in a kid's jacket, I will be buying another one next year in a larger size for my daughter!!
Bought this for my grandson for his sixth birthday. He normally takes a size 6 but because this jacket is a little bit pricey, I got the larger size 8. Glad I did because it runs a bit small. But overall has very good quality and looks really cute on him.
