"This is a handsome and rugged watch that can be worn without worries while playing/ working outside, or on a boat. Leather band takes on a nice patina over the years, like a favorite pair of jeans. Good for when you need to wear a watch, but don't want to worry about damaging your "fancy" watch."

"This is the second Classic Field Watch that I have had from LLBean. I bought the first a few years ago and loved it, but it quit working. I contacted LLBean, explaining that I was hoping that the watch would have lasted longer. I was told to send in the old one and that they would replace it. I did and they did. What a great company. I can buy from LLBean with the confidence of knowing that I will get good value for my money and that they back up what they sell with no hassle. It is so nice when both company and customer can trust each other to be fair."

"Paddling in calm water the watch leaked. Customer Service Rep at LLBean said hers also had leaked.
Problem seems to be in knob. You need to push it in and turn it securely to lock it, but a brush against an object can unscrew it enough to let water in (my guess). Only needs 1/4 turn to unscrew.
Instructions should warn against this, explain you have to lock knob very tightly. They don't.
Good solid case, though. If you really pay attention to securing knob, this is a good buy. Very accurate watch.
Note that Bean's does not currently carry a perpetual calendar watch."

"THE WATCH HAS A SOLID FEEL. THE ITALIAN CALFSKIN WATER RESISTANT WATCHBAND IS VERY NICE AND EXHIBITS DURABILITY. I AM MOST HAPPY KNOWING IT IS AN ACTUAL SWISS MOVEMENT AND CAN WITHSTAND WATER DEPTHS TO 300 FEET. THE SET SCREW IS NICELY RESESSED INTO THE ALLOY BODY FOR PROTECTION. LASTLY, THE DATE IS LARGE ENOUGH FOR VISIBILITY AND LOVE THE RED SECOND HAND. I FEEL CONFIDENT THAT THE WATCH WILL PERFORM WELL IN THE FIELD AS A NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY HOBBIEST."

"I originally purchased an almost identical field watch in 1995 and always found it very reliable. In 2009 this watch failed & parts were not available to repair. LL Bean replaced it with this one with no questions asked & for no charge! You can't go wrong with a company like this!"

"I have been thinking about purchasing this watch for quite awhile. I purchased this watch despite negative reviews I read. I should have paid attention to the reviews. The watch looks good and runs well but since my purchase I continually battle tightening the crown without stopping the second hand. After resetting the watch for time changes or adjusting the date due to shortened months, It seems I cannot get the crown tightened without stopping the second hand. I follow the instructions but it takes numerous attempts before I am able to completely tighten the crown. I purchased another watch which I wear all the time and put this watch back in it's box and put it away. I am so disaapointed."

The Most Excellent Watch Ever,

"I've had my field watch for almost 16 years now (it's old enough that the dial says French Movement) and people still occasionally comment on how nice the watch is and I cannot disagree and always recommend this watch highly. My watch and I have been through a lot and it has held up magnificently well, better than I could have ever imagined when I received it for my 21st birthday those many years ago. Few things last as long as this watch has and I fully expect it last another 16 years at least. Perhaps someday this watch will belong to my grandchildren much like I now own my grandfathers old watches which, although they are well over 50 years old, still keep prefect time. The only real maintenance this watch has ever needed is a new band and battery every couple of years and a new o-ring inside the back bezel with every other battery change."

"I have always favored simplicity. I don't need all the added extras that so many watches contain. Claims that a timepiece is accurate to one millionth of a second over 100 years is just not necessary for the average person.
