I bought this bag to use as a carry on and it has proved itself very well. Holds loads of stuff and is easy to carry as it goes over the shoulder cross wise. I bought it but my daughter took it she loved it so much. Holds all her carry on stuff and she can carry it herself dispite being disabled. It wont hold a lap top be warned but other than that no complaints. A good buy and will last for ever. Good value for the money.

Just got my second bag. After four years of travel in the US and Europe, my original bag is in need of replacement.
I can fit a wallet, phone, camera, iPod, and Kindle in the bag with room to spare! This bag has worked perfectly for day trips to NYC, and holding travel necessities on an overseas flight. The two zippered pockets and back Velcro pocket are bonuses!
I know many have commented on how long the flap is, but when this bag is filled, the flap is fine. I normally don't buckle the flap, so it's not a big issue for me.
I think this bag is a great value! I hope L.L. Bean never changes it!
I was looking for a bag to replace a 20 year old one for carrying folders and papers to class. I didn't read the dimensions, and the way this bag was photographed made it look larger than it really is (my fault of course). I'm really disappointed that it's too small, and the next closest thing is around $180 for a leather-trimmed canvas bag.
I received this bag in dusty olive and cocoa brown. I like the size and the shape as well as the outside compartments. The bag is well-made, most especially the way the leather trims are sewn onto the canvas. However, I wish the look is not that of sunwashed but with slightly more saturated colors. Also, maybe the flap can be made just a tad shorter as it sticks up on the top even if the buckle is adjusted at its shortest. Also, I wish the strap drop goes as long as 23" so I can wear it crossbody (I am 5'2" tall). Last thing, the way the 'latch' closure is attached underneath the buckle design looks pretty sturdy and I can't see how it may come off as in the case of the other reviewers' bags. I probably would not keep the bag as its sunwashed look will not suit what I want in my everyday or my work bag. To me, it is more for excursion, camping, etc.
