I wanted a new everyday bag running to and from teaching high school everyday. It carries my paperback, lunch, an few manilla folders full of grading very nicely. The end pockets have strong velcro and hold my Galaxy Note II perfectly as well as a water bottle.
The back slot is a quick and easy slide. I like that the flap closes with a quick release (you don't have to unbuckle it every time) and that does not show up. The color is true.
This is my 4th and final bag in a year plus search for an everyday bag.
My only con is the shoulder strap is just a touch short to go over my head but that is more the fact that I am a 6'2" 295lb offensive line football coach. A "normal" sized person should be fine, and it works for me over my head, just an inch or two would be a nice touch.
This bag is great. We are a family with lots of needs from my son with Autism to food allergies (epi-pens). This bag holds it all plus! It's great in the winter because you can shove all the mittens and hats in it when you're out and about and not lose them. It's great in the summer for hats and sunblock. It's tough and durable. There are plenty of pockets and compartments. It washes well too.
Please, please, please make this bag in the medium size like the other messengers! This bag is nice enough to carry as a purse/bag without looking like I'm going to school. The medium size would be great for everyday.
I actually love the bag and would have rated it a 5 based on my three months of only occasional use; and never stuffed it or carried heavy items - usually just a few newspapers, magazines, etc. The strap broke at the junction with the bag as I was walking without any particular stress on it. The threads just came loose. I paid for a local shoemaker to resew it with heavy duty thread. Disappointing, considering LL Bean's reputaton for durability and craftsmanship.
