I love this hat it is extremely well made and very comfortable to wear. Mine has the L.L. Bean canoe paddle logo which is a definate classic. It is at home on a trout stream or hike as well as a trip downtown. As for the insect schield we shall see when the weather warms up but if L.L. Bean says it will work I am sure it will.
I bought two of these hats in stone and green and am pretty satisfied with them. Overall I think they work, although my husband was bit on the back of his neck while wearing this hat. It seems to keeps gnats and other bugs away from my face, but I wonder how long the protection will last. The hats are pretty expensive, but they do look nice and don't have a chemical odor. On sale, I would buy these hats again, full price probably not.
