To be fair, this jacket is great in style, warmth, etc. Major failings, however, are the size and number of pockets. First off, the only inside phone/ipod/blackberry/whatever device pocket is too small/narrow to fit today's equipment. It could fit, perhaps, a small fliptop phone. Secondly, there are only two exterior pockets; and they are small also - barely big enough to hold a small hand or glove; and they are situated relatively high on the coat. There are no approximately waist level "hand warmer" type pockets which are found on most high end jackets of this nature. It would be helpful to have also a chest high (whether interior or exterior), zipper pocket for either phones or cash, keys, etc.
ProsDurable, Great Value, Comfortable, Performing as Expected
I love this coat! It fits exactly like I expected it to. I recently moved to North Dakota from southern California, and this is my first winter here. I cannot imagine not having this coat. So far it has been as cold as 25 below zero, and in this coat, I am so comfortable I could probably fall asleep outside! It is also very lightweight, easy to clean, and it looks good too. I definitely recommend it!!!
I was hoping so much to love this jacket, and I do think it's good looking. However, I wore it tonight for the first time in mid-20's weather and I was still cold. The goose down is not thick and is quite sparse in some spots--is not evenly thick. If I keep this jacket, I would definitely have to wear some other layer in addition to the long sleeve top I had on. I can't stand the fur on the hood, so I removed it immediately. I haven't liked the fake fur on any of the jacket hoods this winter. I did not find the hood to be very warm, either. I loved the Baxter jacket for its looks and warmth, but had to return it because the hood fit horribly. The only Bean jacket I have liked a lot this winter is one of the shorter down jackets, which is actually warmer than this 3/4 length one.
