I moved to Barrow, Alaska, just as the ocean started to freeze. Winds are usually 20-30 mph. I bought this coat on its recommendation of warmth-to-x degrees. If there's not much wind, this is a very warm coat. If there's wind, I need a barrier layer underneath, but the coat is cut generously enough through back and arms to accommodate this. The hood is thin, and I definitely need more warmth in wind. The faux fur is silly, but removable. I do very much like the length of this coat, and the very good zipper with snaps to hold the overlay in place. I'm glad I bought it.
It is a very comfy and warm coat. I love the creamy paperwhite color. I have worn it twice and got several compliments both days as well as "where did it come from?" I suspect you will get more orders for this one!

I love this coat. Wish I would have ordered it earlier. I wanted the Periwinkle, that will have to come next year. I ended up with the Paperwhite, which is wonderful. I live in white and won't it be pretty in the snow. First of all, the customer service people at L.L. Bean are very knowledgable and easy to talk with. The coat is the right length, feels like butter on. I love the fact that you can remove the hood and also the fur trim. Oh, there is a nice little adjuster on the back of the hood to make it smaller. That way, you can see all the way around when you have the hood pulled up. It has two pockets on the inside of the coat. The outside pockets zip closed. That way, if you are not wearing your gloves or mittens they won't fall out. The sleeves have nice soft cuffs that keep the cold weather out. Buy this coat. I promise you won't be sorry. Buy early, so you get the color you want. Oh, L.L. Bean, I think you should double the amount of Periwinkle you have on hand next season.
