Since we're still having 80-degree temps in mid-October, it's a little hard to give a report on how warm this coat is. That said, I love how it fits - there will be plenty of room for a sweater underneath. With the longer length of the 3/4-length coat, a 2-way zipper was a requirement for me, as were the storm cuffs.
ProsGreat Value, Comfortable, very warm, very soft
I absolutely love this coat! I bought the white one and it's very flattering and the quality is super. It's warm and very well made. It even has a pocket for cell phone inside the coat!I'm so glad I found this coat.
I've had this coat for 3 winters. I got it for the frequent severe weather we get, although it rarely gets below 0F here. It's okay in milder weather, but I really think Ultrawarm is a very misleading name, and the +5/-40F degree rating is completely wrong - I do sweat in it if I shovel snow, but there isn't a coat around that I don't do that in. For standing in the cold, driving to work, or severe winter weather, it isn't sufficient. I do like the wrist cuffs and the fit of the neck & hood in a good blizzard, but it is pretty shapeless otherwise. One of my coworkers laughs when he sees me in it, and says it looks like I'm wearing a sleeping bag. However, several women have complimented me on it, so I don't know. I got it for the perceived functionality, and not the looks. The "dark raspberry" is actually bright pink, which isn't the look I'm going for, but the price was right at the time. My real objection to this coat is the tendency of the down to compress - it just loses all it's fluff in a short period of time, hanging in a closet (or just from wearing to wearing, actually). I just don't think the quality of the down is as high as I'd expect. The length is pretty good - I'd prefer a couple more inches, but it is much better than a shorter jacket, and it does insulate me from the cold car seat in the morning. Also, I can fit some heavy layers under it, due to the boxy fit. I'm giving this coat 3 stars, because I think that it is appropriately priced for what you get, and is a decent coat. It just doesn't live up to it's name and advertised temperature range.
ProsDurable, Great Value, Comfortable, Performing as Expected
I have the 3/4 length coat in Chalk Blue as well as the full length coat in Blue Periwinkle...I love the colors, as I'm a "summer"skin tone (cool, muted) and dark as well as very bright colors look terrible on me. These coats are super-warm and comfortable - I wore the full-length coat all last winter and was never cold (I live in Pennsylvania). There's plenty of room for layering, which brings me to my critique...I am 5'7" and hover between 115-120 lbs. Even the extra small size is too big and both of my coats look bulky. I wish the fit were more feminine. I'd trade the faux fur (which I have removed from both coats) for a more cinched waist in a heartbeat! :-) On a positive note, the sleeves are plenty long, even in the extra small size.
