I live near Chicago where it gets mighty freakin' cold! This coat is the best you'll find for warmth and comfort. When it gets below 20 degrees I layer it with a turtle neck and a hooded sweatshirt and I stay warm on long walks with my dog. It's light weight and I love the large hood-it really keeps the wind off your face. Cuffs on sleeves keep your arms from getting a draft. The velcro tab adjusts how the hood fits up around your face-a nice feature. My only two criticisms have been voiced by others: the pockets could be larger and the zipper is cumbersome. All in all the coat is worth buying and a good value. There's no coat that would be any warmer for this kind of weather, just expect that you'll have to layer below 20 degrees.
I've been pleased witht this coat. It is lightweight and comfortable, and I appreciate the zippered opening at the bottom. However, I do agree with others that it is NOT "ultrawarm" - if the temp is below about 20, or there is a stiff wind, you will need a wool/fleece sweater underneath. For me that's fine but for others who spend a lot of time outside, or live in colder climates, be warned.
This coat is so lightweight, but so warm, I love it! My only complaint is the sizing. The medium seemed to have too much room in the waist area so I went to a small which also is really room in that area, but is too tight in the sleeves. If I have a bulky sweater, it's all bunched up on my arms. I think a roomier sleeve and a more fitted waist would work better. I have a friend with the same coat who said the same thing. Also, what is the velcro on the hood for? Can't figure it out, it's not for detaching it...
This coat is very warm and I like the two pockets inside the coat. However, the pockets outside the coat do not hold thick, winter gloves, only small ones. The big ones stick out of the coat. With a sweat shirt on, the coat is hard to zip up and from the side, it LOOKS like I have a sweat shirt on. I love the hood and how easy it is to put on and use the zipper and velcro flap. I have used it in below zero temperatures and was glad to have it!
