I have bought so many L.L.Bean jackets and coats over the years. They're the best quality and last forever. Maybe I ordered the wrong size here. I ordered petite large, and large is normally my size in tops. I ordered petite for the length of the coat. It was huge on me, and looked totally shapeless. The hood fell down over my eyes! I sort of agree with others - the faux fur isn't very attractive. I sent this back and ordered a similar coat from another seller which looks much better on, not nearly as shapeless. One other thing - LLBean used to put lots of pockets in their jackets and this coat has only the 2 outside and 1 very small pocket inside. Disappointing.
I road home in the car, wearing my coat. The outside temperature was 34 and I didn't even need to turn the heat on! It is toasty warm and I look forward to wearing it in the colder weather.
I HAVE HAD THE LONGER VERSION OF THIS COAT FOR 20 YEARS AND HAVE LOVED IT! SO WHEN I SAW THIS SHORTER VERSION, I QUICKLY ORDERED IT. WOW!! IT IS JUST THE PERFECT COAT FOR A QUICK ALWATS GO-TO. I TOOK THE FUR OFF AND LIKE IT MUCH BETTER. I ALSO LIKE THE FACT THAT THE HOOD IS ZIPPERED. I WASH IT IN MY REGULAR WASHING MACHINE AND JUST AIR DRY TO MAKE IT COME OUT PERFECTLY WHITE AGAIN. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT!
For reference, I'm short and a size 10 on LLBean's chart. I tried Petite Medium PM and Regular Small RS. This coat is SO ROOMY I might fit into a Regular XS but I'm staying with the RS. I can wear the RS while wearing a long cami, Tshirt, and tunic length sweater, and have a little room left but it doesnt stick out like a tent. There is no way to cinch the waist or hip so cold air can move up when I walk. I was surprised that the RS fit me because in stores this year the Mediums were all too small for my hips. The PM? Too wide! Both sizes are knee length - 35.5 for PM, and 36.25 for RS.
Short women - don't worry about waist length - this coat doesnt have one. Just pick regular or petite based on your arms. RS has an underarm length of 19.5, arm length of over 25. That sounds long, but you have to compare to another winter coat, not a shirt. For me the sleeves in both sizes hit the same place on my hand because the PM has wider shoulders and body even tho the sleeves are shorter. The inner fleece cuffs run big and don't stretch. The Medium cuffs just floated around my wrists and let in cold air.
The hood is nice and adjustable. Petite coats often have skimpy hoods, but not this one. The PM hood is a actually a little bigger than the RS. The fake fur varies from decent to yuck. The 'fur' can be zipped off if you dont like it.
The pockets. Theyre a little small for a coat. My phone fits easily. A glove fits if folded.
