I am so happy with my ultrawarm down coat! I love the fit and all the features ~~~removable hood, knitted cuffs, hidden zipper, zippered pockets, inner pocket as well as neck closures for those really cold, blustery days. I would buy it again.
I need a new winter coat and based on other reviews here I thought this one would be great. But it is way way way too big. I usually wear a small or medium in LL Bean clothes -- medium for most sweaters, small for some, small for pajamas and robes. The size chart for this coat indicated that a small would fit so that's what I ordered. But the coat is giant. Even over a bulky sweater it is way too big. I look like a child wearing her mom's coat. For reference I am 5'7" and about 145 lbs.
Second issue -- the down lining is extremely thin. Not at all puffy, unlike the photos here. They claim it will still be warm but I don't see how that is possible. I already bought a "lightweight down" coat from another store, it is supposed to be very warm but at 40 degrees I was cold while wearing it. This LL Bean coat was supposed to replace that coat. But now I have two coats to return and more shopping to do. I'm very disappointed.

I put a great deal of time into researching the top brands of coats before deciding on this one, ranging between $150-250. For me, this coat is ideal because it has the fur hood, and the square (NF metropolis type) pillows of down, the waterproof protection, and has a good guarantee. I got the black, the fur is darker in person, not as stark contrast as it looks online, which was a relief to me. For reference, I am 5'3" and wear a medium top, but normally a 12/14 bottom. I got the size medium, and it fits comfortably with room to sit down and layer without a problem, but also without looking terribly bulky in my upper body or arms. I ordered the regular size, not petite, because I wanted it to be long, it goes a little passed my knees which is great. The hood was too long and blocked my vision, but there's a velcro thing on the back of the hood that pulls back the hood a bit, so now it's a total win. I had considered ordering a large originally based on other reviews, especially given that generally with coats I may need extra room, but this medium is very ample.
