I've recently had the opportunity to wear this jacket while walking at temperatures below 5*F, and found that I was very warm with a fleece layer underneath. The jacket seems to be windproof, so far as I've tested it.
I found the zipper very difficult to use initially, but we're getting along better after weeks of use.
I got my 3/4 Down Coat today and was so excited...I ordered a large as that is pretty much my standard size. I put it on and oh my....it was huge. I don't think I will reorder it as it just seems to be shapelss and not at all flattering. It has a nice thickness though and if it was available in the Chocolate, I would probably order it in a Medium....the paper white is just too much white...I feel like the Michelin Man in it.
I just got this coat and am very happy with how it looks and fits. I'm 5'7" with long arms and legs and usually wear a medium (or size 6). I ordered this in a small and it fits perfectly -- even the arm length is just about right. It's a bit boxy, but I think ordering the small rather than the medium keeps it narrow enough that it still looks flattering. Perfect length, nice hood and storm flaps. great coat! I ordered the berry color and it's beautiful. If they were to make any changes, I'd suggest slightly longer arms and a more fitted shape -- especially around the waist area.
I bought this coat 2 years ago with great hope. I have been quite disappointed. It does not live up to its warmth rating at all & as a previous reviewer mentioned, my arms & shoulders get very cold. It is very comfortable & lightweight which is a plus in the winter. I expected more from L.L. Bean as I have always been very pleased with everything I have bought from them.
