I bought this coat last week because 25 degree weather was coming. I thought it was not warm enough the first 2 days I wore it over the weekend. It is so light, you feel like you aren't wearing anything. During the work week I discovered that a boiled wool jacket (very popular this year!) is just right for that extra warmth! Today it was 11 degrees & I was fine with warm ankle boots & my new chocolate coat! A Happy Wimp in the Cold
Just got my new coat yesterday and I love it. Its the warmest coat I've ever had. Its just beautiful too. I got it in brown and love it. Would recommend it to anyone who wants a nice coat that is warm and attractive. A little pricey, but worth every penny. I got it in petite because I have to wear petite pants and it fits perfectly.
I did not think this coat looked as nice as the full long one. It just looks like a straight sack on. You also have to be careful, because several of these coats have come with twisted fur trims, missing buttons, or buttons that fell off, coat pockets with unequal length, etc. Luckily LL Bean is more than happy to work with you to exchange the coat for the various defects. As far as the coat goes, it is extremely light and the sleeves don't appear to have any down in them compared to the rest of the coat and your just not really sure what your buying, but if you wear it you'll see that it miraculously still does the trick. It is extremely warm regardless. And the fur trim on the hood is amazing for the whipping upstate ny winds. The hood itself is awesomely designed to block your entire face from harsh wind and leave a little breathing gap. This is very important to me to prevent broken face capillaries and I do have extreme wind where I live, so I just love this feature. I know many state they are happy to get rid of the fur, but I would HATE that and wouldn't probably consider this coat.
The short version, needs a drawstring at the base to block the wind out. I had to settle for a M to get it tighter down there otherwise it just ballooned on me at the waist, but I really needed a L in the shoulder region. Hopefully it won't go bust on me, but luckily it is LL Bean. I would encourage you all to try it. It looks real flimsy and you don't think it will be warm enough but it really is. I'm not sure though how long the component parts will last, but luckily you have LL Bean's guarantee.
I agree with a previous reviewer. The coat is not ultra warm and my arms and shoulders immeadiatly get cold even with silk underwear top and sweater underneath. It is a beautiful coat and I am sad that it does not deliver the ultrawarmth it promises. Also the zipper is not easy to get started .
