I'm from Houston, Tx. Not a cold weather place! Just returned from Fairbanks, Alaska where temps were -12 to -17 in the daytime and -22 at night. I layered up with this coat and was toasty warm the entire time I was there! Believe it when they say it's rated to -40F! The knit cuffs kept drafts out and helped keep gloves in place! I love the longer length. I'm thrilled with this coat and expect to wear it more when I see my mother in Amarillo, Tx next month! Thanks, L.L. Bean!
I am disappointed with this coat. In 1995 I purchased a down jacket and it is still warmer than this new coat. It runs big so that I can wear a sweater under the coat, but it is not the quality of my old coat. I wish we could bring quality, more down for a warmer coat back to today. It seams anything you buy these days is cheap, fast made with no quality control. I gave my old jacket to a homeless person because he was cold. The jacket looked old and I hoped to get the same new. The new was three times more in price. It runs big so I can wear a sweater under the coat. No I am not buying a new one again.
I read all the reviews on the coat's running small. Usually I'm a medium, but in coats sometimes I get a large because I have long arms and broad shoulders. (I'm 5'7" and 139 lbs.) Ended up calling to get exact measurements on the coat. Finally I ordered a small!
The small fits, though it is a little snug in the shoulders and I would like the liner inside the wrist (a great feature) to be a little longer. It fits over sweaters. Probably too small if I needed to wear a jacket under it. I'm keeping the small because it looks great, not too bulky. The sleeve -- the outer layer-- is long enough.
I haven't worn the coat yet, since I live in California. Will use it for trips to cold weather. But it feels really warm, and the way the hood and collar fit you can really feel snug if you're in a blizzard.
I ordered the green in an XS petite and the sizing was perfect. I had been concerned that some reviews said the coat sizing ran large, but not the case for me, 5'3" The coat has some very nice features: several zip pockets and an inside pocket for phone or glasses, which will allow me to go out in winter and not bother with a purse. Also the hood can be adjusted with a velcro tab on the back. The faux fur trim on the hood is an attractive touch.
