The last 2 winters I have borrowed my daughter's shorter version of this coat when I walked the dog on frigid mornings--this year I decided to get my own, and in the longer length so I can use it when shivering on bleachers at sporting events, etc. I ordered a size Medium, figuring I needed that to cover a sweater and fit my arms (which are longish), but this seems to run large--the hood covered my face, and the body of the coat was just too big. I looked like a giant rectangle.
The extremely helpful customer service folks helped me with the return, and I got the Small. Everything fit better, and the sleeves were long enough; I was afraid that if I sized down the arm length would be too short for me, but the sleeves were right, the hood and body fit much better, even over a big sweatshirt. I may remove the fur, it hangs kind of oddly in front of my eyes, but I know from borrowing my daughter's coat that I will FINALLY be warm this winter when I can't "steal" her coat--and I prefer my choice of black over her choice of the bright berry pink color. :) Thanks, LL Bean!
Have been looking for a lightweight but very warm coat since I walk home from work in the New England winter. The hood is very generous and the fur lining is a nice touch. I was pleasantly surprised to find out it had pockets since there was no mention of them in the description and I thought that might be a deal breaker for me. But there are two outside pockets in addition to the inside one that's mentioned in the description. I also like the length which is just above the knee for me. I put a heavy sweater on underneath and it was still roomy enough in the arms.
I own this coat in a periwinkle color. I have washed it and worn it the last several years. It is the warmest winter coat I have ever owned. So it is starting to get kind of worn looking and I thought I better replace it. This time I purchased the black. A little snug across the shoulders but will give a little with time and wearing. I like that I can remove the fur around the hood and wash. Thank you LL Bean for quality and warmth!
