My daughter got the first coat and when I came home I bought one. Keeps me warm in the CT ice and snow when visiting daughter and family. It is great here in GA as well. So good that I ordered one for my mother who is 84. She is happy with hers, too.
This coat has grown on me. I bought it at a clearance price and thought I'd just use it for walking the dog in cold weather, because I thought the fit was a little shapeless and not as flattering as it could be. The coat has grown on me, though, and has been great for the very cold weather we're having right now. I got the white color, and while it's true that you can see the feathers through the light color fabric, that's not noticeable unless you're looking closely. I like how lightweight the coat is. Where I live, people joke that the "mom uniform" is a three-quarter length down coat with square baffles from another manufacturer. Go to any elementary school at pick-up time and you'll see several dozen women wearing these coats. If LL Bean were to make this coat just slightly more fitted, it would be identical to those more expensive coats.
I'm sure I've already written a review of this coat which I bought 2 winters ago. I got on line today to buy another one in a different color just because I love it so much and wear it every day. I have lots of other coats, cashmere and leather but this is my favorite. I walk my dogs every day in the park and depending on the weather is what I wear underneath the coat. It amuses me to see reviews that criticize the coat for making you look like the dough boy. Is there no end to vanity? Do you want to look sexy or be warm in cold weather. Get a life!! Just get the right size. I'm 5'2" weigh 155 lbs and wear a large in everything from L.L.Bean. I like things lose.
It is comfortable, the zipper and snaps keep the wind out and I love the high neckline (zipped to top) and the hood is perfect. The velcro lets you choose how tight you want it around your head, depending on the wind and cold. I removed the faux fur. It looks cheap and is a nuisance. Lots of pockets for wallets or cell phones, with zippers. And reasonably priced. I'm very disappointed that they are sold out. BTW I have the shorter version jacket as well which I love for "not so cold and windy" weather. L.L.Bean please make more of these wonderfully warm and comfortable coats.
The coat is nice and warm, but: I bought the medium, but should have gotten the large. I do not have big hips, but this coat is very snug across my hips and bottom, I have to open the zipper a bit when I walk or sit. Hood is big and hard to make snug under my neck with a scarf on. I haven't figured out how the toggle tie thingies work yet. I would exchange it, but it is sold out.
