I live in Green Bay, Wisconsin and we have some COLD winters here. I love this coat so much! It is high quality material and keeps me so warm. I love that it contains down, which is the warmest. I highly recommend the length, it is perfect for covering your legs and keeping the whole body warm. This is seriously the BEST coat I have ever owned...looks great and keeps me warm even in below zero degrees weather. :) You won't be disappointed in this coat if you are looking for style & warmth.
Got the small 3/4 length coat, falls right at my knee, I am 5'4". I walk about a mile to work, a mile back, usually before sunrise and sunset, in Grand Forks, ND. I usually wear a long sleeve shirt and light cardigan underneath and feel just fine. We are just now getting into some cold weather, so we'll see how the coat does. So far it seems to block the wind well. The hood is big, but I can use the velcro tab on the back to sort of pull it back, then tie it in place. I also like to velcro the front tab around my neck and the hood fur will keep my ears warm if I don't want to pull the hood up all the way. So far so good and I have enough room for a couple more layers.
This coat is so warm and yet light; it is amazing. I am under 5'0" and chunky so I ordered PL and it fit perfectly, even the sleeves. I looked at a lot of jackets and coats from companies first and this LL Bean coat's quality beats all of them! I can't think of one thing I don't like about it.
I was looking for a warmer longer jacket and this fits the bill. I originally bought the shorter version and love it, so I knew the longer one would be the one for me. All I need underneath this and the shorter jacket is a fleece when the weather is really cold. Walking around New York in this (and the shorter version) are making me happy.
