The coat seems a little shapeless but we would have kept it if it fit. It ran really large. I would go down one full size minimally. That size was sold out for us.
I bought 4 Ultrawarm Coats (Three-Quarter Length) during the past two years. First is for my older daughter. When she started her college more than two years ago. She told me it is pretty warm during the winter. The following year, I bought one for my second daughter (in high school), one for my niece(in college). They all said this coat is pretty warm. Finally this year, I bought one for myself. The first day I was wearing it, the temperature is about 38 degree and I was visiting New York city. I did not feel warm at all. I can feel the cold air penetrates into the coat to get to my skin. I was shocked because the coat claims it can withstand -40 degree. After getting back home, I did not feel right to return it since I have been wearing it for two days whiling visiting NYC. I have been since wearing it for more than half month and it is not warn as it claimed. I would say, when the temperature gets below 30 degree, you will not feel warm with it. I compare what I have with my older daughter's, and feel that her coat has more fillings than mine. Off course, the price has gone up significantly within the two years too. I am not sure if I will ever buy stuff from LLBean again.
I really do like this coat because of its color, comfort, and overall warmth. I also love that I was able to order a petite and received an actual "petite"; hence, the coat fits as expected. Oh, let me add that I also love the fact that this coat is full of down yet it is neither bulky nor puffy -- a plus factor for me. However, there are a few items I would change about the coat if given the choice. For example, I would prefer to have double pockets (ones that zip closed AND ones that I could slide my hands into without catching on a zipper) -- similar to the LL Bean Field Coat. This coat comes with zip pockets ONLY (on the outside). The other "problem" with the zip pockets is that they are positioned way up too high. Thus, when my gloves are tucked away inside, I look like I'm pregnant. My final recommendation is that the coat could use a pull-string around the waist (from the inside) to keep the blustery, cold air from blowing up my back. Still, I really do like this coat and after comparing it to many other coats similar to it, this is the one I chose and would do so again. In conclusion, I would recommend this coat over any other I've seen in its category. Nevertheless, if LL Bean were to change the pockets (as I've mentioned) and install an inner pull-string, then this coat would receive a 5-star rating from me.
