I am generally not effusive and rarely write reviews but felt obligated to comment on this coat. It took three tries to get the right size (coat runs large, I've lost weight), and I now have a perfect fit (XS Petite in black). I had compared this coat with those of three LL Bean competitors and found the styling and features superior for my preferences. The coat has been comfortable in temps ranging from low 30s to chill factor well below 0. Here's what I especially love about it: - High quality of construction and fabric finish (not shiny) - Snaps and zips to vary ventilation - Hood easily adjusts in four(!) different ways - Warm pockets that are the right size and height to use when walking - Length doesn't impede brisk walking I wear this coat to take our very active border collie out four times each day for long treks, and I haven't been the least bit cold. I hope to enjoy this coat for years!
I love this coat. The color is most pleasing, the length is just right, it's warm as toast and the best thing is the hood. Walking down by the Hudson River recently, with temps in the low twenties and winds whipping up, I put that hood up with fur (faux, of course) surrounding my face and was toasty warm. I'm ready for the Iditarod. All I need is a sled and some dogs!!
My daughter needed a coat before she went back to college after winter break. She chose this one because it looked warm and loved the color (a sort of lilac). She wears a size large but this is a very large - large. I offered to exchange it, but she loves the fact that she could easily layer it without feeling uncomfortable. It also closes around the neck and has a hood. She's extremely happy with this coat and so am I.
After a year of owning this coat, I'm disappointed. I don't think LL Bean is quality like it use to be. Feathers are constantly coming out of the seams, it's getting thinner and thinner. I got to say, it keeps you warm but only if you are wearing layers underneath. It isn't even waterproof, if you're outside for a while when it is snowing it will get soaked. Time to return the coat and get one that is $200 worth.
