This coat was purchased as a replacement gift for my fiancé. I originally purchased the full-length version of this same coat, but we had to send it back to exchange for a smaller size and shorter length (she's 5'0, 130 lbs and usually wears between sizes 4 and 6). She was swimming in a small-petite and the coat dusted the floor when she wore it which impeded her walking. We ordered this coat in extra-small-petite.
LENGTH: The body of the coat falls right below her knees. If you are shorter than 5'1, I would suggest this coat over the full-length version unless you get very cold shins and ankles. The petite sleeve length is perfect for her.
FIT: The XS-petite still has some extra room in it - especially through the waist; more room than is needed to effectively layer underneath. The cut of the coat has very minimal tapering so there is a bit of bunching around the mid-section when she sits down.
PERFORMANCE: We live in Iowa where the average high temp for the week she's had this coat was about -10 degrees with -30 to -50 wind chills (remember the arctic vortex of January 2014?). I was worried at first b/c the baffles felt very thin, but she said the insulation was as fantastic as she'd hoped and it holds up relatively well to a stiff wind. You wouldn't think it, but the fur lining on the hood actually keeps her face noticeably warmer than when the fur is zipped off.
LLBEAN SERVICE: As mentioned, I originally bought the full length version of this coat and had to send it back. I went the route of buying the new coat and returning the old one instead of exchanging because I wanted the new coat to get here faster. The entire process was handled smoothly within about 2 weeks and I have no doubt we will be eternally happy with our LLBean purchase (literally - they have a lifetime satisfaction guarantee!)
We saw this 3/4 jacket online but went to the store in King Of Prussia to try it on before we purchased the coat. They had the coat but not the color my wife wanted. A new sales person in the middle of the holiday shopping took the time to locate the exact jacket and color my wife wanted from another store and had it shipped directly to our home.
My wife loves the jacket and has kept her warm through out this cold winter
This light winter coat is everything I would want. Its the right length to cover up to the knees, light weight and well made. I also noticed that it is roomy to wear a thick sweater or hoodie underneath if one is prone to feeling cold all the time like me. I love the hood closures and the closures near the neck, which is high to cover it very well. This coat is very warm by itself and really doesnt need layering underneath to keep one warm. Size runs a little large, but its worth it incase one likes to layer underneath.
